How to overcome job search challenges.

Having job search challenges should not be new to you because existence itself attracts challenges. As long as you are alive, there will always be one challenge or the other to face and the fact that we want to live long also brings the fact that we must earn money to sustain our existence. This brings us to the topic of today which has to do with how to overcome job search challenges.

Challenges are problems and issues that interfere with the quality of life or ability to achieve life goals. These include external issues that are beyond a person’s direct control such as cost of living increases and internal issues that you can control such as a bad habit.

Challenge is a situation of being faced with difficulties or task that needs great mental or physical effort which needs to be done successfully and therefore tests a person’s ability to deliver when expected. Job search is a tedious and tiring work on its own. You don’t know your fate until you have your employment letter in your hands.

1. Large competition

In the labor market, there is much competition among job seekers. A large number of graduates emerge from various institutions which brings about competition among these job seekers. There is a large number of job seekers and there is limited or minimum openings available.

Many candidates find the job search difficulties related to the volume of applicants or are short-listed for the job opening. Too much competition is  a serious issue  which a candidate should pay attention to. Competition is natural if the company is popular or the profile is too good.

Too much competition should be seen as a big problem when searching for a job. When the job market is strong, and companies have more positions than they can fill, there’s little competition, and so this is not an issue. However, when the job market is stagnant, there are lesser positions to fill and the competition can become stronger. 2. Limited job opportunities

As once said, there are more job seekers than the job itself. if a location is limited to a specialized type of job, the applicant can move to another location that is in dire need to his/her specialization. Remote job opportunities is also another option to look out for when looking out for jobs. It allows one to work from anywhere, or consider moving to a new city where there are more job opportunities in your field.

3. Lack of confidence

Not been confident enough is also another challenge job seekers face when looking for job. Confidence is a major element to a successful job search, but it might sometimes be difficult to maintain when  facing rejection or struggling to find a job.Lack of confidence is a  big problem which is by no means limited to job search. However, given the urgent need and importance of finding the right job, one can easily become overshadowed by lack of confidence.

Lack of confidence is a common factor among first-time job seekers and those who have been out of the job market for a while. however put, anyone looking for a job can always use a strong boost to their confidence.
To boost your confidence as a job seeker,  focus on your strengths and accomplishments, practice your interview skills, and take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, doing exercise, and eating healthy food.

4. Favoritism

Most times, companies employ based on favoritism. Jobs are given out from the inner circle. Most  companies have open positions, but, won’t publicize these openings. These companies give out these slots based on who they know. One of the most common reasons for this policy is that they  prefer to find an internal candidate for the position.

5. Focus on your skills

When searching for a job, focus on your skills, don’t because of lack of job in your location, try to change careers. Because of reason for not being employed, you can change skills, qualities and perspectives gained during that time. For example, if you have another part time job, you can  learn how to multitask, work long hours.

6. Using a functional resume

When applying for jobs,  focus on skills and gathered  experience  and focus  less attention  on the basic of employment. This is the standard for a resume that has gaps in employment. Do not make the mistake of trying  to explain in your resume why you were unemployed unless  you are asked or it is of a professional nature—such as an internship, certifications or an internship—that will add value to your application. When applying as a professional, don’t forget to add the duration of employment gap in the resume.

7. Being absent online for a long time

Not staying online for a long period is also another factor of not been employed for a long time. This issue seems to be more common among some certain groups. For example, individuals re-entering the job market after being out of work for some period of time for whatever reason. People who have held the same job or worked at the same company for a long time, and older individuals who may not be tech conscious. Individuals in these groups, and others, may likely not  have a professional online profile.

8. Granting interviews with no results

Granting interviews without yielding results is extremely frustrating to individuals. when job seekers continually grant interview for positions they know they are qualified for, and yet do not get any job offers, these may bring about unwillingness to grant more interviews. After series of interviews without getting the job, the job seeker will begin to wonder if anyone will ever hire them.

9. Too conscious of ones strength

When a job seeker is too bothered about his or her strengths and weaknesses, they may be shaky when applying for such jobs. It is a normal fact that they will be asked questions about their strengths and weaknesses in a job interview. It’s one of the most common topics brought up by potential employers. Therefore, it is essential that they are able to provide an acceptable answer, not just by mere words,  but, by giving a demonstration  on how best to utilise these strengths and improving  their weaknesses while on the job.

10. Lack of experience

Lack of experience is a major problem of many job seekers. Many recruiting firms and organizations prefer to employ candidates who have more experience. Many job seekers struggle with the problem of needing experience to get a job, but not being able to get experience without a job. To overcome this, look for opportunities to gain experience, such as internships, volunteering, or freelancing on platforms like, fiverr, upwork, etc.
